Added section for privately owned preserves
[edit]Since the page is about protected lands, and not strictly public lands, it seems appropriate to include private nature preserves as well. Mwehman (talk) 21:14, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Changed wording of opening paragraph
[edit]The first paragraph originally opened with:
"There are 270 protected areas in California, USA administered by the state. Overall, there are over 14,000 protected land units administered by public agencies and non-profits maintained by the California Protected Areas Database (CPAD)."
This is awkward in that the article is not about the protected areas maintained by the state. It's about all protected areas in the state, regardless of ownership. I changed the opening to read thusly:
"There are over 14,000 inventoried protected areas in the state of California, USA administered by public agencies and non-profits, according to the California Protected Areas Database (CPAD)." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwehman (talk • contribs) 15:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Added municipal parks section

Need a better picture
[edit]Right now, we're using File:Kern rafters.jpg in the Wild and scenic rivers section. Problem is, the picture isn't of a wild and scenic river -- the picture was taken in Kernville, while the Wild and Scenic designation starts about a mile upstream of the shot. No big deal, but I happened to notice the picture being used here. --jpgordon::==( o ) 05:59, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- A decade later I removed this. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 13:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Removed section dealing with 2011 State Park closures
[edit]I removed the following section from the State Park section since the threat of the closure is now five years distant and is no longer germane to the article.
"On May 11, 2011, State park officials announced that seventy parks would be closed due to department budget cuts in response to California's continuing budget crises. One of them, Henry W. Coe State Park, is the 2nd largest park in the California State Park system, at 86,000 acres (350 km2). Many of the parks are historical parks and relatively small in size, but the total acreage of closures is still well over 120,000 acres (490 km2)."
